The house, well restored in a rustic Tuscany style with chestnut beams,
bricks on the floor and country furniture, is dipped into nature and into
a way of living far from the crowdy sites. The house is among other houses
in a very small village where the main job was once that of breedin pigs
(that is porks; in fact "Porcarecce" means the place where people breed
porks). Nowdays it is easier to see sheep, instead of pigs. The house is
comfortable and it has outside a garden where one can rest and sunbathe as
well as breathing the smell of a variety of plants, herbs and flowers of
all kinds.

The village is not far from Sovana, a medieval town with a famous
rupestrian Etruscan necropolis. A few minutes away you can enjoy the view
of Sorano, built on tufa stone and the surprising beauty of Pitigliano.
Saturnia and its hot sulphur springs are just 45 minutes away as well as
the lake Bolsena; the renown beaches of the Argentario, the silver coast,
are not far.Other routes, less known, are also available, they are the
mountain routes: you can leave the car and walk or in certain periods of
the year you can be guided to find mushrooms or if you like to deep into a
real past time, country people can show you how to make "pecorino cheese".
MAP TO ARRIVE

When you come from Florence, you have to take
Siena Sud and follow the road to Rome. The road to Rome is called the
Cassia. Along it you will meet several small towns such as Monteroni
d'Arbia, Buonconvento, Torrenieri, San Quirico d'Orcia. Don't enter these
towns but go along the Cassia until you pass through a very small village
whose name is Gallina. A few Km from Gallina you will meet an industrial
area (Rhibo, Stosa....), go along and turn right when you see a signal to
Castellazzara. After that, take the first turning on the left (Do not
follow the road to Piancastagnaio); you have to turn right as soon as you
see a beautiful building on your left called "The Podere Sforzesca", go
along till you are at Castellazzara; here, take the ring-road and follow
the way to Montevitozzo. When you are at montevitozzo( don't enter the
village) turn right and, after a small bridge turn right again and follow
the road to Elmo. You will pass through two very small villages (
Capannelle and Il Poggio) and you will drive along a slope at the end of
which Porcarecce is. The house is in the small square on your left. |
