(San Bernardo)
The museum collects the information about
the people who lived close to
or in the woods up to fourty years ago: what work
they did, who the met with,
what is left over from the time.
The ethnografic museum, besides
collecting, preserving, studying and valuing
the past human traces in the area, puts these
interests at the center of a teaching
activity in its labouratory and accompanies it in
the woods, with the trails to find
the traces of the past human activities and to
observe the vegetation and the animals-
The museum is open from Friday to Saturday
from 9:30 to 12:30.
On the other days of the week the visit is possible
through reservation
at the number 0577-582323 (fax 0577-314616). For a
guided tour of the trails
a special accompaning service with experts in
different disciplines:
"the entertainers of the Museo del Bosco".
The entertainers lead the way of the footpaths, indicate things to observe
in the natural and anthropic environment, and
participate in the teaching.
The accompaning service is available in german,
english, french and spanish.
The trails are always open!

The trails
In the past the woods of Orgia were
crossed by many routes for wagons and mule-tracks.
Some of the paths have been cleaned
and equiped with direction signs and
illustrated panels regarding the botany, the
fauna and the anthropology.
The itineraries are three and they have a
circular outline to offer a variety of pathways.
The area is visited for the harvest of
mushrooms and for hunting. The hunting parties
take place on Saturdays and Sundays during
the months of novenber, december
and january, it is therefore not advisable to
walk on the paths on these days.
Itinerary 1: "Le Carbonaie" (approx. 5,5km., it takes 2h.30)
The trail follows an old mule track
and it extends itself along the ridge of Poggio Pescille.
It offers various intereting topics: anthropological, for the
presence of charcoal pits,
lime kilns, a rebuild cabin and charcoal pit; botanic, due to the
altenation of different
types of vegetation; the fauna, for the variety of animals, and
views of the landscape.
There are also some shorter footpaths.
Itinerary 2: "Il Romitorio" (7,5 km., in about 2h.30)
The trail follow the old road of
"Fusenna" up to the "Romitorio"; this is a construction
made up of a landhouse and a church, where a
procession, at which many locals
participate, leads to in september. The
points of interest are various.
There are some traces of traditional
activities lost in time such as the drying of the
chestnuts and the backing of lime, surrounded
by an interesting environment made
up of a great variety of vegetation and a
rich fauna.
Itinerary 3: "Il Fiume" (6,3 km., about 3h.)
The pathway leads along the old
trail which connected the two villages of Orgia and Brenna,
crossing the Merse river.
The fast changing landscape is remarkable: from the woods to the cultivated
fields along the river. It is possible to compare degraded environments to others which
are still intact. This trail is mostly of naturalistic interest
