From Badia Isola to Piazza del Duomo in Siena:
By foot or by horse on one of the most evocative pieces of this storical road.
The italian foot-race calendar will be
added to one's wealth by a new date for the fans: "Run along
Via Francigena". The first race is foreseen on the 9th
November 1997. The sienese ATP has prepared a real cultural
event, sport an recreation, that looks at the jubilee year 2000,
inspired by the "Via Francigena". On this road the
bishop from Canterbury, Sigerico, when he turned back from his
travel to Rome in 994, had annoted his run until Calais. It was
then during centuries the most important road all over Europe,
because it connected different people and cultures. Among the
different locations that Sigerico annoted carefully were Seocine
(Siena) und Burgenove (Borgonuovo, now Badia a Isola). Just from
this place, opposite the romain church and the monastery,
constructed in 1001 by Ava Zenovi, widow of Ildebrando, will
start the manifestation. It will finish after 17 km in the "Piazza del Duomo" at Siena, ahead of
the old hospital "Santa Maria delle Scale", where the
pilgrims had a break on their way to the Saint City.
It will be a Sunday in the open air on which at the sportive
passion will be united the spirit of the group, the cultural
interest and the emotional adventure to cover, running or
walking, one of the most evocative and beautiful landscapes of
this storical itinerary, giving a sentiment to the spirit of an
united Europe.

The
ATP assicures particular facilites of Payment for the individual
stay or this one with a group in the hotels in its province, for
guided tours and museum entrances.
The foot-race manifestation will be contained in the ambit of a
larger programm that will occupy a whole week-end
(7, 8, 9. November 1997) and during which one will be a meeting
reguarding the middleage ways.
As well as the runners will be present the horsemen and the
horses in collaboration with the "Associazione Provinciale
Turismo Equestre". The locations and the times has to be
